it is motown night for the top 10 of the eigth season of american idol. motown is celebrating their 50th year anniversary this year and the idols had a chance to tour hitsville. this week's mentor is smokey robinson, one of motown's best singers. so here is my rankings of tonight's performance:10. scott macintyre - i agree with simon, the song choice was completely wrong. yes, it was nice to see him sing an up tempo song but it does not fit his character. he was out of breath at some parts and it was simply not good enough. he still looked awkward on stage.
9. megan corkrey - it was shouty and was vey fast for her. it lacked dynamics and i did not enjoy it. she has to hope that the votefortheworst.com guys would go out and vote for her.
8. michael sarver - it was not bad, but it was only good. i think it was a safe song for michael but he sounded weird. i agree with simon that it was a bit shouty but i still enjoyed it because he was nice to watch and he had control.
7. anoop desai - it was a weird song choice for him but he had good parts and some bad parts. his falsetto sounded weak and was not hitting some of the notes. it was somewhat forgettable
6. lil rounds - lil sang well tonight but it was not her best performance. she did better in the previous weeks. i like her outfit but i hated the hair. hope she switches back to her short hair next week.
5. danny gokey - it was a fun song and he is really a performer. his voice is really distinct and he did justice to the song. it was good but not wow, also not his best performance. his dancing did not help him either.
4. allison iraheta - now she proved that she deserves to be in the top 10. she sounded great and was really good tonight, definitely a dark horse in the competition.
3. matt giraud - finally, an awesome performance vocally. he started on the piano and i thought it would be another boring performance from matt. but when he stood up, he proved that he can do it with out the piano and he was great. let's see if he makes it even if he had the dreaded first spot.
2. kris allen - i liked the fact that he started with an acapella and then it was nice to see him with his guitar again. it was good and he gave a unique rendition of the song. he still looks great on screen and his personality really shows when he sings.
1. adam lambert - after ranking him last in last week's rankings, adam gave a superb performance tonight. he showed his soft spot tonight and dressed in a suit and fixed his hair. he looked good and sounded even better. he did proved his versatility tonight.
what was weird tonight that the top 6 seems to have cemented their place already. i think they have been out singing the other 4 singers in the competition. they are definitely in a different level compared to the other 4 contestants.
i predict that the bottom three tomorrow would be michael, megan and scott. and who i think will go home? megan corkrey. will the judges use the save? not at all.
