american idol 8: adam, allison and kris advances to the finals for group 2

after a great performance night, the second group of 12 semifinalist is now up for america's decision. this groups inclide early favorites jasmine murray, matt giraud, nick mitchell, adam lambert, and megan corkrey. after last night's performance at least 5 did well and are up for the 3 seats available in the finals.

after america's votes, the three lucky ones are:

3. adam lambert

they now join danny gokey, michael sarver and alexis grace from group 1 in the finals. looks like the men are out singing the women since 4 men qualified so far.

i am very happy with america's choices so far. i predicted all 6 finalists in my prediction posts. hope my winning streak continues until the end.

american idol 8: group 2 performs, tough choice on who goes through

i have read a blog by a high school classmate that the group 2 of the semifinals of american idol 8 can be called the group of death. this group includes lots of familiar names that we have seen in the audition rounds. most were expecting a great performance night when they come to the stage. and tonight, when they performed, some stepped up to the challenge and some simply blew their chance away.

so here is my ranking solely based on tonight's performance:

12. jeanine valles - we know almost nothing about this girl and performing third on the show makes us forget her. she really killed "this love" by maroon 5 by adding unnecessary vocal calisthenics to the song and it really made me switch to another channel. even the judges could only say she looks good and no praises on her singing. sorry but this girl has no chance of getting through...

11. jasmine murray - i like this girl and i was really disappointed with her performance. she had a rough start, got it going in the chorus part but did not recover till the end. the nerves may have gotten the best of her. she looks frightened but her smile is still great. hope she gets picked in the wildcard.

10. matt giraud - too much hype on this guy after the top 36 was announced. he was named as one of the top contenders in this competition. but his performance tonight was simply unimpressive and forgettable. but he can sing, no doubt... i agree with the judges, wrong song choice.

9. matt breitzke - i also like this guy but i think he also picked the wrong song. i like the song but it does not fit him. plus the fact that michael sarver has advanced to the top 12, i don't think american will put him through.

8. jesse langseth - she picked a nice song (i also liked the song) and she did ok, but not great. sometimes her facial expressions are a bit annoying. i also agree with simon, she is forgettable but she sings well. and she was even annoying when the judges were giving the critiques on her. hope she knows when to keep quiet.

7. kai kalama - he performed well, he was ok but not great. i know he can do better. i hoped he picked a more modern song, but i don't think he would advance.

6. mishavonna henson - this girl has the range and she sings well but i didn't like the song she picked. i was bored but i put her up there because her skills is definitely there and she can wow us with a different song.

5. nick mitchell - i thought i will be bored since i have heard him sing this song so many times already. but i must admit, he is entertaining. i would love it if he advances but i think it would be better if he shows us nick rather norman...

4. megan corkrey - i liked her in the auditions and i still like her. she nailed he song and she sounded really good. she has the presence but her movements are quite awkward. it was also a plus that she was the only one wearing white (almost all of them are wearing dark colored clothes - mostly black and dark blue) and it made her stand out.

3. allison iraheta - the judges called her the dark horse 2 weeks ago and she really proved it. her rendition was of the song "alone" was good but i still think last season's ramielle malubay sang it better. she was the best among girls and she nailed it.

2. kris allen - the surprise of the night. i did not expect that kind of performance from him. he sounded good and he really worked that stage. he looked comfortable and i think he is really serious about the competition. i also agree with simon that he looks good and he can win the girl's votes.

1. adam lambert - he is definitely the one to beat in this group. he did it again and he had the energy, the skills and the charisma. he would and should definitely advance to the finals. he was good but i think danny's performance last week was better. he should also watch out on soime of his facial expressions since it becomes annoying at times.

so my picks to advance are adam, kris and allison. but megan and nick can steal one of those places since they got so much exposure in the auditions as compared to kris and allison. matt also has a fighting chance since he is third on the dialidol.com predictions and because of his fanbase due to his exposure in the auditions. but i would be happy if any of these 6 gets through but my top 3 picks advancing would make me happier.

survivor philippines: season 2 audition dates and venues announced

after a successful first season, gma 7 has announced the auditions for the second season of the hit reality show survivor philippines. who will become the next sole survivor after baketball heartthrob jc tiuseco in season 1?

the audition is open to all individuals 18 to 39 years old, physically and mentally fit and can last in an unfamiliar terrain for 39 days. audition dates and venues are as follows:

pinoy fear factor: jommy is declared as el ultimo participante

jommy teotico, a model from manila was declared the el ultimo participante of pinoy fear factor argentina. after 11 rounds and 33 challenges, jommy gained the title, with janna dominguez getting the runner up spot and marion dela cruz finishing third place.

the second challenge in the last round was named arañas en la boca, where they need to keep a tarantula inside their mouth for 2 minutes and eat it after that. the 2 with the fastest time would advance to the last challenge. it was janna who topped the challenge, finishing after 2 minutes and 56 seconds. jommy came in second and marion was eliminated.

the last stunt was entitled volcando del auto, where the participantes need to drive over 3 slanted ramps and the one whose car would get ferther from the last ramp will win the title of mi ultimo participante. it was jommy who went first. he was very lucky since his car turn turtled and rolled up back again, allowing the car to roll a few more meters. janna went up next and her car also reached an impressive distance from the ramp. janna's car reached 17.10m while jommy's car traveled 22.50m. jommy was declared the clear winner.

jommy won the title with 2 million pesos and a house and lot from globe asiatique. in an interview with the buzz, the participantes have agreed that the winner would treat them to a bonding out of town vacation. jommy revealed that they are planning to go camsur but nothing os final yet. he also promised to buy each of the participantes a matching pair of shoes but they have difficulties in finding the sizes. jommy was laso hospitalized after the show due to gall bladder stones and part of his winnings were spent on his hospitalization. marion and janna also revealed that they have not pursued the relationship that started in argentina for they have different priorities in life. manuel also said that he and jommy are okay even with what happened in the show.

survivor tocantins: candace is the 2nd person voted off

in the second episode of survivor tocantins, lawyer candace smith of the timbira tribe was voted out of survivor tocantins. she lasted 6 days in the island and was voted unanimously by her tribemates, 7 - 1 with her vote going to sierra.

there was no reward challenge again in this episode. the challenge was a combined reward and immunity. in this challenge, each tribe will send out 3 players at a time (composition of which will be said by jeff) to play a game soirt of basketball. a ball will be released and they will try to gain possession and shoot the ball on their goal. the other team will try to stop them in what ever way they can. it is a very physical game.

having momentum on their side after winning the first challenge, timbira gained the upperhand by getting the first 2 points of the game. but jalapao came back and gained the next 2 points tying up the game. the last point was gained by jalapao. jalapao wins immunity! in addition, they also get fishing gear as a reward.

also part of winning is they can send a member of timbira to the exile island. they choise to send brendan. in a twist, brendan need to choose a member of jalapao to go with him. he chose taj to go with him. upon arrival at the exile island, each of them needs to choose an urn, one contains a clue to the location of the hidden immunity idol. taj chose first and it was the empty one so brendan got the clue. he decided to keep it to himself. there was also an option that he can switch tribes if he wants to.

when he returned to taj, taj convinced him to show her the clue and she will help him find it. he showed it to taj and they both decided that the idol was in their respective camp. taj was a little bit uneasy because the revelation that she is a wife of a football star might make her a target in her tribe. brendan also decided to remain in his tribe.

back at timbira, the vote was between sierra and candace. sierra was the one they voted at the start of the game when they were asked to vote for someone that would not join them in the trek. sierra was woried because she has not found the idol and she was in danger. on the other hand, coach was rooting for candace to go because of her bossy attitude. coach has already assured sierra that it will be candace that would go but she still feels uneasy.

at tribal council, it was coach's rallying to vote off candace that triumph and candace was voted out. candacewas really surprised and it was a complete blindside, at their first tribal council.

14 are left, who would be voted off next?

pinoy fear factor: manuel is eliminated, gets 4th place

businessman manuel chua got the 4th place in the hit reality show pinoy fear factor. in the first challenge in the ultimo ronda de eliminacion or final elimination round, the participantes need to escape from an enclosure buried in the sand. after they emerge from the buried cavity, they must run to the fear factor logo and touch it.

it was marion's turn to break a fear factor record. he clocked 3minutes and 53 seconds, bveating the old record by about 16 minutes, which was set in the Turkey franchise. Jommy was also safe after finishing in 4minutes and 40 seconds.

it was now up to janna and manuel. the one with the faster time would advance in the next challenge. janna had a difficult time in the sand since her face got covered in the sand and the argentine crew need to dig up the sand to free her up. on the other hand, manuel's lower body got trapped in the sand in his attempt to get out. in the end, it was janna who got the faster time and sent manuel home.

manuel is the one to beat in the contest and has been viewed as a great threat in the contest. he has broken at least 3 fear factor records and has made us proud. in a tv interview, his bet to win the season is marion.

american idol 8: first 3 finalist known, 2 other groups revealed

after a night of singing billboard top 100 chart topping songs, the first group of 12 semifinalist faced america's votes. the top male and female vote getters will automatically advance to the finals. among the remaining 10 finalists, the one with the highest votes will also advance. the 3 finalists for the first group are:

american idol 8: semis group 1 takes the stage

its the first live show of american idol season 8 with the group 1 of the semifinalists takes the stage. hopes were high with earlly favorites taking the stage like danny gokey, stevie wright, anoop desai and the famous tatiana del toro.

so who worked it out and who i think is out?

well, to start with, here are the ones who got my attention last night:

1. danny gokey - he is obviously paula's favorite in the bunch, and he definitely nailed mariah carey's "hero". he sang in tune but his left hand is quite distracting. kara and randy implied that he was the best for the night and simon said it was good but not fantastic. i think he was the best of the night.

2. alexis grace - well, this girl can sing.... that small frame can definitely has a great voice. all the judges like her but his limited exposure in the earlier rounds worries me if it was enough to pull her through.

3. michael sarver - this guy can sing. i liked the song that he picked, even if the judges didn't like it. he played with the tune a couple of times and it was a good performance. hope america votes for him.

4. anoop desai - great song choice, he sang well. but the judges were correct, he was not connected to the song... and i think the risk of choosing a song sung by a female did not pay off, since danny was way better. but he was good.

5. ricky braddy - he was the surprise last night, great vocals. i remember the song but i still can't remember his face...

6. jackie tohn - the vocals were not great but she knows how to work the stage. she is a performer and i liked it.

the people in the middle...

7. anne marie boskovich - it was good but not great. the judges were right, the song was too big for her

8. tatiana del toro - she was surprisingly good last night, she was not annoying and was quite reserved. i thought i was watching someone else

9.stephen fowler - some parts were okay but some parts were annoying, but his high notes were great

my bottom three...

10. brent keith - i can't remember his performance nor his face....

11. casey carlson - she looks great, but her performance was a disaster. her voice did not match the song and her dancing did not help either

12. stevie wright - i liked this girl in the audition but last night was a disaster for her. her performance reminded me of jasmine trias' final three performance of "it's raining man" in season 3

i would give a fearless forecast on who would go through tonight. based on performance, i would like danny and alexis to advance, with either michael or anoop taking the third spot. but don't discount the fact that vftw.com is rooting for tatiana del toro. other contestants that had good exposure during the earlier rounds could have established fan base like anne marie boskovich, stevie wright, jackie tohn and stephen fowler. casey can have the male votes. based on dialidol.com, the three that would advance would be danny, alexis and michael.

my prediction would be for the guys, it will be danny gokey by a mile. for the girls, i am split between alexis grace and jackie tohn. the third spot would go to either anoop or michael. my dark horses for tonight would be tatiana, ricky and anne marie. but my picks would be danny, alexis and michael.

amazing race 14: new season premieres, preston & jenn eliminated

amazing race is now on its fourteenth season! in its premiere episode, 11 new teams will experience the adventure of travelling across the world in a race. there are several interesting pairs this season. there is margie & luke, a mother and son team with luke being a deaf person. luke is the first deaf person in the US version, but there was a deaf person in the amazing race asia season 2. there is mel & mike, father & son team with both of them being openly gay. there is also brothers who were stuntmens (mark & michael) and the first time to have 2 flight attendants in a team (christie & jodi).

the race started california were teams were instructed to go to locarno switzerland. there are 2 flights, one going to zurich and another to milan. in each destination, they need to catch a train going to locarno. upon arrival at locarno, they need to sign up to a departure time the next morning. so the teams pretty much caught up with each other at this point, with departure times leaving at 15 minutes interval.

the next morning, a priest gave them a picture of their next destination. it was the verzasca dam, where they encountered a roadblock. one of the team members need to bunjee jump in the dam, which is the second highest commercial bunjee jump in the world. after finishing the roadblock, the teams need to go to interlaken where they need to transport 200 pounds of cheese down a hill.

all the tams had difficulty in this task, for the cheeses would easily roll down the hill if it falls to the ground. each block weighs approximately 50 pounds for they need to get 4 blocks to finish. after completing the task, they were instructed to go to the pit stop which was at stechelberg where they were greeted by a yodel.

topping the first leg was margie & luke and luke was happy to prove that deaf people can do amazing race. close behind was siblings / lawyers tammy & victor and third place went to the stuntmen. dating couple preston & jennifer finished last and were eliminated.

american idol 8: joanna pacitti disqualified, felicia barton given a second chance

just before the semi-final round starts, a top 36 contestant of american idol 8 was disqualified. rumors has it that joanna pacitti has been disqualified from the competition due to the record deals she had before she additioned for idol. joanna qualified to the semifinals despite forgetting her lyrics in all of the rounds in hollywood week. it was her raw natural talent that made her get through, according to the judges.

with her departure in the competition, she will be replaced by felicia barton.

But by Thursday morning, Joanna had been disqualified and replaced by Felicia Barton.

from this group, the most distinguishable male contenders are danny gokey (who is paula abdul's favorite), anoop desai (who got a lot of exposure in the audition and hollywood rounds) and michael sarver (the oil rig father and was praised a couple of times in the hollywood week). among the girls, it would be between anne marie boskovich, alexis grace and stevie wright. but vote for the worst might go for tatiana del toro.

based on exposure in the earlier rounds, my fearless forecast for the top 4 spots would be danny gokey, michael sarver, stevie wright and anne marie boskovich, with tatiana and stephen fowler in there to make a big surprise. but this prediction might change after their performances.

local reality shows announces new seasons for 2009

several local reality shows has announced that they will stage new seasons this year. at least 3 local shows have announced their plans through the teasers that is shown in their respective networks.

first on the list is the original reality artista search on tv, starstruck. after leaving the air for three years, the show that produced mark herras, jennelyn mercado, marky cielo, ryza cennon, yasmin kurdi, aljur abrenica, mike tan, lj reyes, mart escudero and jris bernal among others will stage a comeback this year. also rumored to host the show is the original host, nancy jane and drew arellano. as a prelude to the show's comeback, they will stage a reunion of the show's alumni and auditions will commence sometime in 3Q 2009. the show is rumored to be dubbed as starstruck: the elite comeback.

next on the list is the most successful reality show from abs cbn, pinoy big brother. teasers has been shown in almost all shows of abs cbn, alerting all housemates wannabees to be ready for the auditions are coming soon. after season 1's nene tamayo and season 2's beatriz saw, another set of housemates will battle it out to be declared the season's big winner.

last on the list is last year's reality show to beat, survivor philippines. gma 7 has been showing teasers on the show's forthcoming second season. after season 1's jc tiuseco, another set of castaways will set foot on yet another 39 days of challenges and triumphs in a remote island in a nother country.

pinoy fear factor: savanah is out, final four revealed

savanah lamsen is eliminated in the octava ronda de eliminacion or eighth round of elimination of pinoy fear factor. no one expected that savanah would last that long in the competition. this is the third consecutive time that savanah landed in the bottom group and did the final stunt and her third time was her last time.

the challenges for this round are (lifted from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinoy_Fear_Factor ) :

> Atrasado Por Un Caballo (Slowed Down by a Horse): Participantes hold on to a line, as they are being dragged by a horse through a muddy field. The one who would hang on the longest is exempted from competing in the rest of the round.

> Cinta Transportada de Fruticias (Strawberry Conveyor Belt): Forty strawberries are transported on a tilted conveyor belt. A Participante must catch them one by one and place them in the box. To make things difficult, a chosen fellow Participante places distractions on the conveyor belt along with the strawberries, such as gunk and pieces of raw meat. The two Participantes switch roles so both would have a chance to try both sides. The one who places the most strawberries in the box is exempted from competing in the final stunt.

> Pared Giratoria (Rotating Wall): Participantes must scale both sides of a rotating wall in as many revolutions as they can in ten minutes without falling off. The one who performs the least revolutions goes home to the Philippines

in the first challenge, the boys did far better than the girls. janna managed to hold on to the rope for 5 seconds while savanah let go after only 3 seconds. marion did the worst among the male participantes, holding on to the rope for 39 seconds. both manuel and jommy did well in the challenge. but manuel beat jommy by 7 seconds, jommy's 54 seconds versus manuel's 1:01.

in the second challenge, janna and jommy got 6 strawberries each. marion got only six while savanah only got one. marion and savanah are sure to compete in the third stunt. in a twist, it was up to manuel to choose who would be safe and who would go. he chose janna to be safe and jommy to participate in the elimination challenge. his decision angered jommy and jommy even called him plastic.

in the last challenge, it was jommy who did well in the challenge. he lasted during the entire 10minutes, earning the right to stay. both janna and marion slipped off the rotationg platform before the 10 minutes, but marion managed to hang on at 3 revolutions while savanah only stayed there at one revolution. so savanah was sent packing.

the final four are manuel, janna, jommy and marion. they will compete in the last round where one will go after each of the challenge. the mi ultimo participante will be known on friday, february 20, 2009.

shall we dance: joseph bitangcol is declared as the new dance superstar

joseph bitangcol was declared as the winner of yet another season of tv 5's dance reality show, shall we dance, the search fo the next dance superstar. he was able to beat fellow batch winners comedian chokoleit and former powerboy jordan herrera. joseph topped both the two parts of the competition, the pair dance and the dance off.

joseph was able to impress the judges since the start of his batch and was the first one to qualify for the finals. gaining second place was chokoleit and jordan settled for third place.

project runway philippines: etc announces auditions in visayas and mindanao

entertainment central has announced another set of auditions for the second season of project runway philippines. after 3 audition venues in luzon, project runway will travel to cebu and davao to find qualified contestants for its second season. here is the article from the official site of the channel ( http://www.etc.com.ph/news1.php ):

pinoy fear factor: rj calipus is eliminated

rj calipus is eliminated in the septima ronda de eliminacion or seventh round of elimination of pinoy fear factor. the stunts performed in this round are (lifted from Wikipedia arrticle on pinoy fear factor: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinoy_Fear_Factor ):

Cofre en el Agua (Coffin in Water): Participantes lay down inside a transparent glass coffin being submerged underwater. At the signal of a pilot light, the Participante must open a lock using one of three keys to release themselves from the coffin and swim toward the edge of the pool marked with the logo. The two who finished the stunt the fastest would be exempted from further competing in the round. In case no one finished the stunt, the lengths of time the Participantes lasted underwater will also be assessed.

Caja del Terror (Box of Terror): The Participantes are laid inside a box which is partitioned in three sections, one at the head, one surrounding the feet and the middle section, each to be filled with either rats, snakes, or frogs. The Participante must transfer the specified number of a the animal in the middle section to a fish tank next to the box in three minutes. The fastest one to accomplish the stunt would be exempted from competing in the third stunt. In case all were not able to complete the stunt, the number gathered will be assessed.

Circuito con Explosiones (Circuit with Explosions): Each Particapante tries out a giant wire loop game, in which touching the wire maze with the giant electrical hoop triggers a fiery explosion behind the Participante. The one who completes the stunt the slowest or the one who went the least furthest (in the most time) before setting off the explosion goes home to the Philippines.

in the first stunt, it was only rj among the saistig that did not finish the stunt. marion had the fastest time of 19 seconds followed by jommy with 20 seconds. manuel and savannah did it at 26 seconds but savannah was penalized for holding the lock and the key before the signal. janna did the stunt in 42 seconds.

in the second stunt, only manuel and janna were able to transfer all 15 frogs. manuel was the only one with snakes on his head, making it a lot harder. it was janna who was safe and she was faster than manuel by only 2 seconds. the last stunt will be between manuel, savanah and rj.

in the last stunt, only manuel finished the stunt. savanah reached a farther distance compared to rj. savannah was able to clear 2.97m of the loop while rj only reached the 2.60m. rj was eliminated and was sent back home to the philippines.

pinoy fear factor: jommy wins second ronda sin de eliminacion

jommy has successfully beaten manuel in their face off in the second and last ronda sin de eliminacion or non-elimination round in pinoy fear factor. for this round, the challenges are (taken from Wikipedia article on pinoy fear factor: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinoy_Fear_Factor ):

Red Bajo en Helicóptero (Net Under the Helicopter): From one side a flying helicopter, the Participantes traverse a net hanging under it in any way they desire, reach the other end, get back inside the helicopter, and press the button to stop the clock. Time also stops when the Participante falls into the water below. In case the Participant was not able to complete the stunt, the length of net covered and/or the amount of time spent in the stunt is also considered in the assessment. The four Participantes with the best performances would move on to the second stunt.

Tanque de Leche (Tank of Milk): The Participantes sit down and hold a flaglet with their hands while the container that surrounds their head is being filled up with milk. Time starts at the signal and stops when the flaglet is let go. The two who did the stunt the longest compete in the final stunt.

Reingresar en el Camión (Reparking in the Truck): Participantes drive a car out of a moving truck, make a u-turn and drive the car back into the truck. The one with the faster time in the stunt wins P50,000

in the first stunt, manuel and jommy again gave a record breaking performance. jommy did the stunt in 34 seconds while manuel did it with an amazing 26 seconds; breaking the record set by the columbian franchise of fear factor which was at 36 seconds. janna had an accident where her foot was stuck on the net, causing muscle spasms and she was rushed to the hospital. in this stunt, marion and savannah performed the least and was sent back to the camp.

in the second stunt, manuel had the best time of 4minutes and 30 seconds, followed by jommy with four minutes and 5 seconds. rj and janna were sent back to camp. in the last stunt, both manuel and jommy admitted that they are not good drivers. manuel had a car accident years before and jommy had just learned to drive. both of them finished the stunt but jommy had his car flew over the other car in the ramp, endangering the lives of some of the crews of fear factor. but in the end, it was jommy who did the stunt the fastest and was declared the winner. he is now sure of the PhP50,000.00 prize.
